That is the case for three instead of one, since each shape starts where the last one stops being comfortable. All three are Damascus over a high carbon core with stag antler handles, and they roll up in leather that ties shut.

The steel
Damascus means layers of steel forge welded into one bar, then etched so the ladder pattern lifts out of the flats. Ladder comes from cutting grooves across the billet and pressing it out again. The pattern is decoration and does not cut. The high carbon core underneath takes the edge and keeps it. All three blades come out of the same run, so the rungs read as a family across the set. Carbon steel darkens into a grey patina with use, and it will spot if it is left wet.
The handles
Stag antler is never twice the same, which makes a matched set of three the awkward part of this build. We pick the scales for a run together, since that is the only way three handles come close on colour and on ridge depth. Each blade is full tang, with brass pins through the slabs, so nothing is glued on to work loose. The ridges earn their place with wet hands, because they give your fingers something to catch on.
The knife roll
The roll is vegetable tanned leather, hand stitched, with a pocket for each of the three knives so the blades never touch. The face is carved with an oak leaf and acorn pattern, cut into damp hide with a swivel knife, not pressed out in one machine strike. A strap wraps twice around the outside and ties. A block stands on a counter and stays there. A roll travels flat, and it keeps three edges off the inside of a drawer.

Every set is different
Every blade is forged and finished here in small runs. The ladder rungs land where the billet put them, so the spacing shifts from one blade to the next. Antler comes out its own colour every time. Yours will be a set, not a copy of the set in the photograph.
Looking after it
Hand wash them, dry them straight away, and never put them back in the roll damp. Leather holds water against steel. A light coat of food safe mineral oil before they go away for the season is enough. Cut on wood or plastic boards. Questions buyers ask
Do I need three knives for one animal? No. One knife does the lot, slower. The three are here so a wide skinner never works in close around a face.
Is the caping knife worth owning? It stays in the roll most of the year. On the day you want the cape clean, it is the only blade here that will do it.
Will they rust? They can. There is carbon steel under the pattern. Dry them after use and keep a film of oil on them.
How much is engraving? 35 dollars for the whole set, every blade in it. It is an option, never already added.
How long does shipping take? Most US orders arrive in 5 to 7 business days.
What is the notch in the spine for? That is the gut hook, sharpened inside the curve. It opens hide from underneath while the point stays clear.
