Bushcraft and Forest Axes

Small forest axes for shelter, firewood and carving. This is the axe that lives on a pack rather than in a woodshed: long enough in the handle to swing with two hands when you need power, short enough to carve one handed against your knee.

The bit is forged thin behind the edge so it bites into green wood instead of bouncing, hardened at the edge and left tough behind it. Hickory or ash handles, hung tight and wedged, with a leather bit cover for pack carry.

Treat the handle with linseed oil once a season and keep the head dry. Pair it with a bushcraft knife and you have covered almost everything a camp asks for.
