A drop point hunter is the knife people reach for when an animal is down. The point sits low, so it does not open what you meant to keep whole, and the deep belly gives a long sweep for skinning. The blade is Damascus in a flowing wavy pattern etched dark and bright, full tang through a black buffalo horn handle banded with crushed turquoise set flush along the middle. Brass pins hold it together and a leather sheath comes with it.

The blade

The Damascus is pattern welded over a high carbon core, so the edge behaves like the carbon steel it is. It takes a keen edge, comes back quickly on a stone, and the waves are weld lines brought out by the etch, not something printed on. That carbon core is also the trade. It will take a patina in use and it will rust if you put it away wet or leave it in a damp sheath. Dry it, oil it, and the pattern stays crisp. No two of these blades match.

The handle

Buffalo horn is dense, polishes to a deep black and warms fast in the hand. The band of crushed turquoise runs flush down the middle of the scales, so you feel one surface rather than a raised strip, and the blue reads clearly against the black. Brass pins pick up the warm tones in the steel, and there is no guard, which keeps the grip simple. Horn carries its own streaks and cloudy patches, so your handle will be its own.

Every piece is different

These are forged, ground and finished by hand in small runs, and no two patterns repeat. The Damascus figure, the color of the horn and the way the turquoise falls will vary from the photographs. What you receive is one of a kind.

Looking after it

Wash and dry it by hand. Never the dishwasher, never left soaking, since dishwasher damage voids the warranty. The high carbon core wants dry storage and a light coat of oil. Do not store it in the sheath, and let the leather dry away from heat. Sharpen on a whetstone at roughly 20 degrees per side, then strop. No pull through sharpeners, and it is not a pry bar. Laser engraving is 20 dollars per blade, added on this page. Around 30 characters fits on a blade, and anything longer sits better on the sheath. Questions buyers ask

Is the Damascus pattern real or printed? Real. The blade is pattern welded and the acid etch brings out the layers, so the waves run in the steel.

Will the turquoise fall out? The crushed turquoise is set flush into the horn, level with the surface, nothing standing proud to catch.

Does buffalo horn need looking after? Keep it dry and away from long soaking or hard heat. Horn is natural material and dislikes being cooked or drowned, same as wood.

Will this steel rust and how do I stop it? The core is high carbon, so yes if neglected. Dry it after use and keep a light film of oil on it.

Is it full tang? Yes. The steel runs unbroken from tip to butt with the horn scales pinned to it. Every fixed blade we make is built that way.

Can you engrave it? Yes, on the blade, the handle or the sheath. You approve a proof first, and engraved pieces are final sale unless defective.
