The blade
1095 is a plain high carbon steel and that is the point of it. It takes the sharpest edge of any steel we forge and comes back quickly on a stone, so a long day of field work never ends with a blade you cannot fix. The trade is that it is not stainless. It darkens with use, first along the edge and then across the flats, and that gray patina is normal. Left wet in the sheath it will rust. Dry it, oil it lightly, and the steel stays sound.
The handle
Camel bone is close grained and dense, warm cream, and it fills the hand without the slickness a synthetic gets once things turn wet. The surface keeps a slight tooth, which matters on a cold morning. Crushed turquoise runs along the top edge, set flush so your thumb reads one surface, with brass spacers at either end. There is no guard, so your grip sits close to the blade. Bone is natural, so color and grain change from knife to knife.

Every piece is different
Every knife here is forged, ground and finished by hand, so this one will not match the photographs exactly. The bone carries its own color and grain, and the forge finish sits differently on every blade. Runs stay small for that reason.
Looking after it
Wash it by hand, dry it right away, and keep it out of the dishwasher. Dishwasher damage voids the warranty. Do not leave it soaking or sheathed wet. Carbon steel wants dry storage and a light coat of oil. Leather dries slowly, away from heat. Sharpen on a whetstone at roughly 20 degrees per side, then finish on a strop. Questions buyers ask
Why a drop point rather than a skinner? The belly does the skinning and the lowered point keeps you clear of the paunch. It carves and cuts cord in camp too.
Will the turquoise come loose? It is set flush into the bone and finished level, so nothing stands proud to catch. Look after it like the rest of the handle.
Is there a guard? No. The handle runs straight off the blade, which keeps your grip close for control work. Keep a dry hand on it.
Will this steel rust and how do I stop it? It can, since 1095 is not stainless. Dry it after use, oil the blade lightly, and store it out of the sheath.
